Miscellaneous letters, arranged alphabetically, received by officers of the Club from members and others, including distinguished guests. The correspondence relates mainly to membership of the Club and subscriptions, but also to some extent to the Club's activities, its use by other organisations, and the invitations to dinner of distinguished persons including Gustav Holst, A.F. Pollard, G. Gilbert Scott, and Sybil Thorndike. Included are also a letter from the University of Manchester which was considering the establishment of a University Club in Manchester 1924, letter of Sir Charles Sherrington about the portrait Augustus John was then painting of him 1924, letter of Sir Oliver Lodge regarding a photograph of himself which the Club requested 1925, and letters regarding the loan of Augustus John portraits for exhibition (portrait of Mackay to New English Art Club 1924-5, and portrait of Sherrington to Walker Art Gallery 1924).

  • Printers' block for the menu card of the Club, not dated The menu card was illustrated with allegorical figures of Art, Letters, Science, and Philosophy around the borders. Printers' block for the Club's crest (drawing of ship with title The University Club, etc. superimposed), 10 May 1959. In a letter of 1924 in this collection of archives John Sampson states that Anning Bell was responsible for the design of the Club's crest whilst Robert Rankin in a letter of 1946, also in the collection, states that Bell designed the menu with its portrait of Alexander Mair (? as Philosophy) upon the same.
  • Two pieces of the Club's carpeting, one of which (light brown colour) was apparently part of the original carpeting of the Club at Mount Pleasant and the other (dark green) part of the most recent carpeting. Both pieces of carpeting incorporate the circular design of the Club's emblem (a galleon with the Name "The University Club" written across the ship,and on either side the words "Exspectate" and "Venl"), a design for which Anning Bell was responsible.
