School Outposts

During the first half of the Twentieth Century the School founded three research outposts where more specialised research could be conducted.

The first of these was at Runcorn in Cheshire, founded in 1904. The other two were located in more far-flung parts of the world, representing the bold and pioneering spirit of the School in the early decades of its existence; an outpost was established at Manáos (now spelled Manaus), Brazil in c. 1905, and another at Freetown, Sierra Leone in 1922.

Read a brief history of these School outposts:

Crofton Lodge, Runcorn, Cheshire

Yellow Fever Research Laboratory, Manáos, Brazil

Sir Alfred Lewis Jones Laboratory, Freetown, Sierra Leone
